Obituary of Kenneth Zabolotney
Ken passed away suddenly on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at the age of 74. Beloved husband of Wanda for over 53 years, loving father of Darrin, Brad (Angela) and Corey. Ken will be greatly missed by his cherished grandchildren Dallas, Sidney, Emma, and Alice, and by his sister Shirley Johnson (Bill) and brothers Keith (Barbara) and Barry (Daneve). He is predeceased by his parents and by his brother Brian. He will be missed by his many nieces, nephews and friends. Kenneth was born to Floyd and Edna Zabolotney on July 16, 1942 in Moose Jaw, SK. He grew up and attended Viceroy High, where he met Wanda Elaine Munro in grade 11, after her parents moved to the area. The sweethearts were wed in the Viceroy United Church on October 12, 1963 and began their life and family together in Maple Creek, SK before settling in Riverhurst, SK where they raised their family. Over the years there was no need to travel too far for recreation, as the family lived within a few miles of Palliser Regional Park on Lake Diefenbaker. Roots were firmly planted and the park became the family vacation hot spot. Most, if not all summers for a great many years were spent at the family cottage by the Lake. Ken was community minded and served as Mayor of Riverhurst for 2 terms. He was school board president for a number of years, president of the Palliser Regional Park Board and a hockey coach for his kids for a couple of seasons. He will be remembered by most in the community as an Operator on the Riverhurst Ferry, which he piloted for many years while also serving as a first aid responder, SGEU Shop Steward and a member of the SGEU Executive. After retirement, Ken had the time to feed his Rodeo passion and took in many Rodeos over the years in all communities around the Region. Ken also owned and operated a successful Riverhurst-based small engine repair business in his retirement, until the demands on his and Wanda's health would no longer allow. All are invited to attend a Memorial Service to be held at Palliser Regional Park, Sage View Golf Course Banquet Room on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made payable to "Kinsmen Telemiracle" and mailed to 2217C Hanselman Court, Saskatoon, SK S7L 6A8. Arrangements are entrusted to Parkview Funeral Chapel, 474 Hochelaga St W, Moose Jaw.
