Phyllis Schuweiler

Obituary of Phyllis Schuweiler

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Phyllis Rose Schuweiler (Zagol), with her family by her side, on January 16, 2018, at the age of 86. Phyllis will be deeply missed by daughters Janet (Rick) Mohr and Linda Schuweiler, and son John (Dorothy) Schuweiler; grandchildren Stefanie (Brad) Young and Jerrod (Crystal) Mohr; great-grandchildren Addyson, Evangeline and Desmond Young, Rebecca and Gabriella Mohr; as well as beloved cat Thumper. Phyllis is also survived by sister-in-law Agnes Zagol and nephews Mark and Grant, all of Toronto. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband Stefan (1972), parents Mary and Alex Zagol, and brother Jim Zagol. Phyllis was born in Assiniboia on May 14, 1931. An exceptional student, she graduated high school and commercial college at the age of 17 and began working at the Assiniboia Hospital. In 1951, she married the love of her life, Stefan Schuweiler, living first on the family homestead and then moving due to his military service to Moose Jaw, Portage la Prairie, Germany and Ottawa. They returned to Moose Jaw after Dad's retirement from the military in 1966. In Moose Jaw, Mom worked at Pittsburg Paints, the Royal Bank, and then CFB Moose Jaw where she was Secretary to the Base Surgeons for 27 years, retiring in 1995. Her cheerful nature and meticulous work ethic made her a valued member of the CFB Hospital team. Mom was a kind and generous woman, who valued her family above all else. Small in stature, she had immense influence in our lives and the lives of all who knew her. She was a wonderful cook and avid gardener whose produce and flowers were the envy of the neighbourhood and frequently shared. A private celebration of Phyllis's life will be held at a later date.

"And the only measure of your words and your deeds will be

the love you leave behind you when you're gone."
